It may be cold and dreary, but don't forget sunscreen

With winter hitting its stride, that means the sun is sitting quieten in the southern sky and most of us are spending less time outdoors because it’s decent too darn cold. When we do venture out, we’re usually bundled to our ears.

But that’s no reckon to forgo sunscreen during winter months, says Dr. Quenby Erickson, a dermatologist and husk cancer surgeon at St. Louis University Clinic.

“People forget and think they don’t need to step it because they’re not outside very long,” she says. “They’ll exhaust it every single day in the summer but not in the winter.”

Slathering sunscreen on exposed centre parts such as the face is especially important when participating in open-air activities, Erickson says. And even when you’re not.

“God forbid you’re stuck fa unprepared,” she says. “If you get a bland tire or are waiting in a parking lot for someone to come, you could get a sunburn.”

Erickson and the Shell Cancer Foundation and the American Academy of Dermatology tender these tips and facts about the sun and our skin in winter:

Take care of your skin

In winter, our film is constantly being subjected to extremes in temperatures -- the rigid wind outdoors and the heated air indoors. No speculate we end up with dry skin, chapped lips, flyaway braids, and dry, itchy scalps.

According to www.skincarephysicians.com, low humidity during winter can occasion dry, irritated skin and, when the skin becomes dry and irritated, eczema can flare up.

The website contains a troop of winter skin care guidelines including using a humidifier, dressing in layers to abort sweating and overheating, and to shed wet clothes and footwear as in the last as possible.

"In winter months, the outside chill and inside heat can combine to dehydrate your shell," says RN Rachel Gautreau, owner and wise guy of Bellissima Medical Aesthetics in Dieppe. "It is high-level to use a richer moisturizer to keep the moisture balance in your crust."

The more oil a moisturizer contains, the more effectively it protects against moisture injury. Moisturizers that come in ointment form admit the most oil because an ointment, by definition, consists of 80 per cent oil and 20 per cent inundate. This water-in-oil emulsion forms a protective layer on the integument and makes it more "moisturizing" than creams and lotions.
