Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Mirrors and Christmas ornaments reflected the light of Tiffany-glass chandeliers as Frank Sinatra filled the air at Tavern on the Green yesterday.

The occasion was hardly festive, as the landmark restaurant in Manhattan’s Central Park opened its doors for a public preview of thousands of items, from glassware to weathervanes, it will auction off next week. The restaurant filed for bankruptcy protection in September 2009, after the losing its lease on the city-owned site to a higher bidder, restaurateur Dean Poll, who runs the park’s Boathouse Restaurant.

Guernsey’s auction house will conduct the court-ordered sale Jan. 13-15 in the Crystal Pavilion of the 75-year-old eatery, which hosted as many as 650,000 patrons a year. Tavern will use money from the sale to fund a liquidation plan.

“Everything will be sold,” said Arlan Ettinger , president of Manhattan-based Guernsey’s, who was dragged around the preview by a restless caramel-colored mutt named Rascal. “It’s a sad auction but I’d like to believe that we are doing it as a celebration of the place.”
